Vampire Weekend Thought They Incurred the Wrath of Trent Reznor

Vampire Weekend Trent Reznor Grammys Mad Nine Inch Nails

Trent Reznor made a lot of Grammy haters and Nine Inch Nails fans happy when he tweeted out “a heartfelt FUCK YOU guys” after the show cut short his band’s incredible live team-up with Queens of the Stone Age, Dave Grohl, and Lindsey Buckingham. But, to be fair, the man didn’t specify his beef when he renamed the awards spectacle “Music’s biggest night… to be disrespected.”

Earlier in the night, NIN’s Hesitation Marks lost the Best Alternative Album trophy to Modern Vampires of the City by SPIN’s Band of the Year, Vampire Weekend. And the thought at least occurred to drummer Chris Tomson that Reznor’s ire might have been directed at that particular snub. In an interview with Los Angeles’ KROQ rock radio station, he joked about misinterpreting the message:

“We saw that last night and we were worried for a second that it was about us because Nine Inch Nails were in our category,” Tomson said. “So we thought, ‘Oh, damn. Is Trent Reznor pissed at the Dubs?'” To avoid future confusion on the part of the NBA or NWA, the “dubs” in this case does not refer to the Golden State Warriors or anything West Side Connected.
