Watch Ty Dolla $ign’s Beautifully Bombed-Out ‘Never Be the Same’ Video

ty dolla $ign, jay rock, never be the same, beach house ep

Ty Dolla $ign’s Beach House EP washed up on iTunes this week, and the Los Angeles rapper-singer is promoting his debut short-player with an apocalyptic video for the Jay Rock-assisted, sorta-Drake-shaded (in name, at least) “Never Be the Same.” Ignore the sea salt air-vibes conjured by the EP’s title, and forget about the pool party Dolla threw with Bone Thugs-N-Harmony for the “100 Everything” clip a few months back — this just-dropped visual takes place in a bombed-out wasteland brought to life by director Jerome D.

As Dolla reflects, via syrupy vocals, on how success has altered his life, the camera surveys the devastation surrounding him: crumbling buildings, abandoned school buses, orphaned children left to their own devices. Okay, so maybe it’s a dramatic interpretation of the song’s “shit done changed” thesis, but the track comes with its own melodramatic tendencies. Watch through the end and to hear electro-violin sweep over Rock’s guest verse. Some things will just never be the same.
