Watch Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks Bring ‘Lariat’ to ‘Fallon’

Stephen Malkmus recently confessed to SPIN that he’s not a night owl. “I don’t live for the night like I did a little bit when I was younger,” the 47-year-old said. “I’m not in that lifestyle mode — I’m more of a chin-stroker when I listen to music.” Self-imposed curfew aside, the indie-rock icon made his way onto Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on January 6, to promote his sixth album with the Jicks, Wig Out at Jagbags.

Joined by bassist Joanna Bolme, guitarist Mike Clark, and drummer Jake Morris, Malkmus slid through Wig Out standout “Lariat,” name-dropping Tennyson, venison, Mudhoney, and Bongwater’s Double Bummer on national television. For a web exclusive encore, the Portland-based foursome dipped into their 2011 LP, the Beck-produced Mirror Traffic, and performed “Stick Figures in Love.” (They also repped for their hometown, via Clark’s Portland Trail Blazers hat and Red Fang T-shirt.)
