See Secret Colours Revive Outdated Listening Technology in ‘It Can’t Be Simple’ Video

secret colours, it can't be simple, positive distraction part I

Secret Colours aren’t shy about their love of ’60s psych-rock — for quick proof, check out “Blackbird (Only One),” a feedback-saturated groove from 2013’s Peach LP. Now, almost a year later, the Chicago quartet have undergone a few lineup changes (singer-guitarist Tommy Evans and drummer Justin Frederick are the only current members who played on Peach), tightened their sound, and recorded a pair of forthcoming EPs: Positive Distractions Part I, out February 4, and Positive Distractions Part II, due April 29.

Secret Colours shared the first single from Part I, “It Can’t Be Simple,” a few weeks back (via Stereogum), and now they’ve unveiled the track’s music video. Directed by bassist Eric Hehr, the clip functions as a three-and-a-half-minute throwback to the days of vintage technology, when listening to vinyl was more than a simple affectation and huge tape reels were actually used.
