Watch Linnea Olsson’s Death-Defying Cello-Pop ‘Dinosaur’ Video

Linnea Olsson, "Dinosaur," video

Linnea Olsson is a cello-wielding Swedish singer-songwriter whose U.S. debut album Ah! came out earlier this month. SPIN can exclusively premiere the Alana da Silva-directed video for “Dinosaur,” a case study in how neoclassical elegance can be warped in service of an excellent indie-pop song. When Olsson softly but firmly declares, “I’m still alive,” the cataclysm she has survived is more likely to be a breakup than a giant asteroid. Then again, the whimsical, low-key visuals show the handband-wearing singer and a couple of backup dancers performing against, yup, an outer-space backdrop. When unexpected instrumental textures buzz and creak toward the world of avant-cellist Arthur Russell — an immortal, for sure — we see Olsson tumbling vertiginously, but there’s never any doubt she’ll land on her feet.
