Jonwayne Raps Inside of a Giant Diamond in ‘The Come Up’ Video

Jonwayne Scoop DeVille The Come Up Video

Los Angeles rapper-producer Jonwayne had an immense 2013. He dropped two mixtapes, picked up a cease and desist from Marlboro, reclaimed his family name from a certain acting cowboy (explained here), and closed with Rap Album One, one of the unsung greats of last year’s hip-hop slate. Now that 11-song set spawns an official video for Scoop DeVille-assissted highlight “The Come Up.” Directed by Henry DeMaio, the black-and-white clip finds our hero surrounded by the youthful signifiers — a white picket fence, a school desk, a tricycle toting a boom-box. Scoop emerges from a far more grown-up vehicle (is that Peanut Butter Wolf alter-ego Folerio acting as chauffeur?) but Jonwayne shouldn’t be jealous. By the end he’s rapping from within a diamond.
