Grammys 2014 TV Ratings Keep Up With Last Year

Grammy Awards 2014, Grammys, TV ratings

The Grammys spotlighted some different faces this year, but the viewership was just about the same as in 2013.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, early figures show that 28.5 million people watched the Grammy Awards on January 26. That compares with a final tally of 28.4 million viewers last year. Both shows were down dramatically from 2012’s ceremony, when 40 million people watched after Whitney Houston’s death and the rise of Adele. But if the 2014 event’s numbers hold, it would still edge out last year for the second-highest-rated Grammys since 1993.

The only awards show with higher ratings than the Grammys is the Academy Awards. Pharrell, a fixture at the Grammys last night, is also among 2014’s Oscar nominees.
