Hear Beaty Heart’s Expanding Psych-Pop Balloon ‘Kanute’s Comin’ Round’
South London trio preps debut album 'Mixed Blessings' for May
South London’s Beaty Heart make swirling psych-pop without succumbing to the overly heady inclinations of some of their peers. The first share from their 2014 debut album Mixed Blessings was the rightly named “Lekka Freakout” — the trio’s songs are the stuff of barefooted stomping and heartfelt handclaps. For further wilding, click on “Kanute’s Comin’ Round” below. The tropical treat bursts with the Beach Boys’ blissful harmonies and Animal Collective’s frenetic percussion. Figure in a wee bit of Akron/Family’s understated jams and Liars’ off-kilter playfulness, and you’ve got the beating heart of, well, Beaty Heart.
The group’s debut was recorded with Dave Eringa (Manic Street Preachers, Idlewild, Kylie Minogue) and is currently slated for a May 12 release. Nusic Sounds officially drops “Kanute’s” March 3.
