Arctic Monkeys Mark U.S. Conquest With ‘Do I Wanna Know?’ on ‘Letterman’

Arctic Monkeys, "Do I Wanna Know?," 'AM,' 'Late Show With David Letterman'

It only figures Arctic Monkeys would see a little more American commercial success with their latest album, but the results are still bracing to see. “Do I Wanna Know?” is one of the songs from last year’s excellent AM that has confronted Alex Turner with questions about a potential Drake influence, and yet the word-wise late-night longing and Bee Gees backing falsettos come plated in adamantine glam-rock riffs. Last week the track hit No. 1 on Billboard‘s Alternative Songs chart, a somewhat surprising first for a group that’s massive back in the United Kingdom, and Turner ‘n’ crew celebrated the occasion with a performance on Late Show With David Letterman. Last night’s reading of the slithery AM standout was pretty straightforward, but it’s worth watching for its hip-swiveling bravado. This is a different British invasion.

Elsewhere, Ty Dolla $ign performed on The Arsenio Hall Show, and you can watch that below. He, DJ Mustard, and a violinist delivered the ratchet R&B of “Paranoid,” and you should just see the joy on Dolla’s face after he shouts the lyric about a “booga wolf.” He recently released the Beach House EP, which also features video selection “Never Be the Same.”
