Watch Nick Cave Shout Out Miley Cyrus in ‘Higgs Boson Blues’ Video

Nick Cave Bad Seed Higgs Boson Blues Video

Nick Cave knew it would be a momentous year for Miley Cyrus. His excellent new Bad Seeds album Push the Sky Away came out all the way back in February, but the Aussie outlaw icon and rock poet clearly had a prescient moment when he name-dropped the Bangerz starlet in a song about humankind’s search for the so-called God Particle. As SPIN’s Jason Gubbels put it, “Higgs Bosun Blues” is “a shaggy-dog centerpiece worthy of Bob Dylan stuck inside Mobile.”

At eight minutes on the album, it makes for a fantastic live experience, which explains why the official music video for the song comes in the form of a fresh, single-take session. Above, this ode to the Large Hadron Collider surpasses the nine-minute mark, in fact, while Cave’s ace wrecking crew follows his blues-preaching lead. The clip was shot in July in London, directed by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard. Feeling tense? You’re not alone. Cave had the same effect on Marc Maron.

And if the shutterbugs’ names seemed familiar, that’s probably because they’re the same two directing, Cave’s half-fake documentary 20,000 Days on Earth, which guest-stars Kylie Minogue was just announced as part of the Sundance 2014 slate.
