Lil Wayne Is Not Dead

lil wayne, death hoax

Let’s be clear: Lil Wayne is not dead, despite rumors suggesting otherwise.

As Hollywood Life points out, the 31-year-old rapper was the subject of a death hoax that went viral on social media on December 16. The bogus report spread by way of a video called “R.I.P. — Rapper Lil Wayne Found Dead,” which grossly makes light of Wayne’s epilepsy by claiming the New Orleans MC was found dead after suffering a seizure.

The video also requires viewers to share it on Facebook before they can watch, which is a known template used to cause computer viruses and steal personal information. In the past, similar spammy ploys have been used to trick people into thinking Eminem was the victim of a near-fatal stabbing.

Weezy, though, has been the subject of more legitimate death scares in the past. Earlier this year, Lil Wayne was in and out of the hospital following a spate of seizures. Back in March, after he was discharged from Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles, Wayne explained his health issues in an interview on L.A. radio station Power 106.

“The bad news is I’m an epileptic,” Wayne said. “I’m prone to seizures. This isn’t my first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh seizures. I’ve had a bunch of seizures, y’all just never hear about them. But this time it got real bad ’cause I had three of them in a row and on the third one, my heart rate went down to like 30 percent. Basically, I could’ve died, so that is why it was so serious.”

But Weezy fans can rest easy — Mr. Carter is still among the living.
