Dead Weather Roar Back on ‘Open Up (That’s Enough)’

Dead Weather, Jack White, "Open Up (That's Enough)," stream

The Dead Weather are back with another slab of sinister garage-blues. Jack White’s Third Man Records announced this fall its boss’ band with the Kills’ Alison Mosshart, Queens of the Stone Age’s Dean Fertita, and the Raconteurs’ Jack Lawrence would be releasing a series of 7-inch singles for eventual compilation on a 2015 album. The vinyl is available only through the subscription-based Third Man Vault series, but now previously teased first A-side “Open Up (That’s Enough)” is streaming in full online. As with Dead Weather’s 2011 album Sea Cowards and 2009 debut Horehound, it’s darkly roiling rock’n’roll, built from authoritative yelps, furious riffs, and pounding drums. “Like bubblegum in your hair, isn’t fair / But it smells good,” Mosshart spits. The single will be available digitally January 14.
