Arcade Fire Weird Out ‘Little Drummer Boy’ for Zach Galifianakis

Arcade Fire, "Little Drummer Boy," Zach Galifianakis, Samuel L. Jackson, Toby Maguire

Arcade Fire have a well-earned reputation for seriousness, but let no one say they’ll be receiving a lump of coal in their stocking this year. Above, see the indie-rock titans sing “Little Drummer Boy,” tongues deeply in cheek, for Zach Galifianakis’ Funny or Die series “Between Two Ferns.” The Haitian percussionists from this year’s excellent Reflektor are on hand, too, but what’s most notable is Régine Chassagne’s very un-her yawp and Win Butler’s ceremonial lighting of the Christmas cigarette.

All this happens around the 3:30 mark, as Galifianakis’ guests on the deadpan fake talk show, Samuel “LL” Jackson and Toby Maguire, cough from falling snowflakes their host identifies as asbestos. It’s as funny-haha and also funny-bizarre as this all sounds, and if you like that you’ll also want to watch both Galifianakis spanking Justin Bieber and the National singing “Silver Bells” with Gregg Allman and Stephen Colbert. Pa rum pum pum pum to all, and to all, a good night.

See where Reflektor landed on SPIN’s 50 Best Albums of 2013.
