Yellow Dogs Tribute Show Will Raise Funds for Victims and Family

Yellow Dogs, Brooklyn Bowl, tribute

A memorial concert is scheduled for tonight after the Yellow Dogs tragedy last week. New York City’s Brooklyn Bowl is hosting the event, with all proceeds going to the victims and family affected by a deadly, inter-band shooting in Brooklyn’s East Williamsburg neighborhood. Nada Surf leads the bill, joined by James Chance of the Contortions, Kyp Malone of TV on the Radio, Luke Temple of Here We Go Magic, DJ sets from Interpol and the Rapture members, and more. The concert is set for 7 p.m. EST, with doors opening an hour earlier.

The shooting early November 11 claimed the lives of two members of the Iranian dance-punk band, guitarist Soroush Farazmand and drummer Arash Farazmand, along with fellow Iranian musician Ali Eskandarian. The reported shooter, Ali Akbar Mohammad Rafie, formerly of the band the Free Keys, then took his own life. Two other members of the Yellow Dogs, bassist Koory Mirzeai and singer Siavash “Obash” Karampour, weren’t present during the shooting. Another man, Sasan Sadeghpourosko, was wounded but survived.

In a statement last week, Koory Mirzeai and Karampour said: “We wanted the world to discover us as we were: a community of musicians defined by our music, our friendships, our culture and our art. This is not the way we ever imagined the world would learn of our story.”

Tickets range from $15 to $30. Here’s the full list of scheduled acts:
