We Can Officially Blame Raekwon for No New Wu-Tang Album

Wu-Tang Clan, delay, Raekwon, RZA, 'Arsenio Hall'

RZA has confirmed Raekwon is holding up Wu-Tang Clan’s next album. Titled A Better Tomorrow, the project was supposed to commemorate the 20th anniversary of their 1993 debut Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), but a tentative July release date has already come and gone. On The Arsenio Hall Show for the ninth anniversary of Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s death, RZA cleared up recent reports he faults Raekwon for the record’s delay: Yes, he does, but there doesn’t appear to be any bad blood between the two.

“Raekwon is the last one to come put his verses on,” RZA told host Arsenio Hall. “Today is the day that Ol’ Dirty Bastard passed away … The thing is, he can’t be here. I can be here. Raekwon can be here. Method Man can be here. So I just thought that we all should be there. And I know Raekwon is gonna be there. He knows I love him. We’ve got nothing but brotherly love for each other, but put some of the business to the side and let’s go make this music, yo.” RZA then mocked anger at his host, quipping, “What are you trying to do, start beef?!”

Hall broached the subject by asking about a pair of recent Raekwon tweets. “Yea i just read that rza article? Shit is funny to me,” Raekwon wrote, adding, “I love u rza, u know what it really is.” The comments came after RZA singled out Raekwon in an interview with Grantland. “I feel like we have enough material on the album,” RZA said at the time. “I just need Raekwon to come onboard fully. I need some more energy from Ghost[face Killah] and GZA, too. If they give that energy, I will give us a great last album. If they don’t give us the energy, I gotta figure out a plan B.”

In other Wu Tang-related developments, Method Man has defended Chris Brown. If the pop singer were a “regular dude,” his recent assault arrest might’ve turned out differently, the Clan member told XXL. ” I woulda whooped his ass, too,” Method Man said of the alleged assault victim, who reportedly photo-bombed Brown. “But based off the fact that it’s Chris Brown, they’re making a big deal about it. I feel bad for the dude. And the bloggers, all these other sideline people with their opinions aren’t making it any better.”
