Owen Crashes a Funeral in Boozy ‘Bad Blood’ Video
Singer-songwriter's newest LP out now via Polyvinyl Records
Earlier this year, Mike Kinsella, the Illinois singer-songwriter who records as Owen, scaled his family tree with “Bad Blood,” a majestic, country-informed single from his latest album, L’Ami du Peuple. “Bad blood / Blame your mother for every shadow you’re afraid of,” the tunesmith sings on the track, before setting his sights on an alcoholic grandfather and a co-dependent grandmother. “The burning urge to flee / Well, that’s on me.”
Now, the Polyvinyl vet — whose resume includes work with Cap N’ Jazz, American Football, and Owls — has shared a music video for “Bad Blood” that plays out like a family funeral. Directed by Guise (the duo of Samuel Gursky and Mitchell Wojcik) and set inside of a record shop, the clip catches a group of well-dressed mourners offering their memories of the deceased. Kinsella, meanwhile, is wandering around on the periphery, wearing flannel, and is clearly a few drinks in. Watch him stumble through the proceedings by hitting the play button above.
