Liars Confirm ‘Fun, Instinctual’ March 2014 Album

Liars, March 2014, album

Liars are ever the shape-shifters, and their next album could portend another sonic change-up. The Los Angeles (via Brooklyn, via Berlin) band have announced an as-yet-untitled new LP on the way in March 2014 via Mute. That confirms what Liars’ colorful Instagram videos recently hinted.

Liars are apparently wrapping up the follow-up to 2012’s excellent WIXIW at their L.A. studio as you read this. Making the new album was  “almost the exact opposite experience to producing WIXIW,” they say in the press release. Frontman Angus Andrews adds in a statement, “Instead of being doubtful, work on the new album has been immediate, fun, instinctual and confident.” The watchword here is “spontaneity,” with Andrews summing up: “Creation for creation’s sake. No rules. No mistakes.”

Also: No further information about the upcoming album. You can revisit the minimalist, beat-oriented album teasers below. Also check out Liars’ 19-minute remix of “Mr Your on Fire Mr,” originally from their 2001 debut album, They Threw Us All in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top. And see them break down the influences that shaped WIXIW.
