In a recent backstage interview with SPIN, Franz Ferdinand frontman Alex Kapranos shared some insight as to how the band crafted the set list for the tour behind this year’s Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action. “We’ve been opening the set up with ‘Bullet’ quite a lot recently,” Kapranos said at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom. “It’s like a total shock to the system. It’s like walking out, grabbing someone by the scruff of their neck, and yanking them up.” Now the Glaswegian foursome have shared a striking new music video for the track.

Directed by Andy Knowles, the black-and-white clip finds Kapranos in full-on greaser mode, wearing a leather jacket and sporting slicked-back rockabilly hair, as if he’s been taking fashion tips from the Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner. Unlike the videos for “Love Illumination” and “Evil Eye,” the “Bullet” short doesn’t rely on Lynchian unease or gross-out visuals — it’s a simple performance piece, peppered with a few speedy camera tricks here and there.
