Yo La Tengo Have Been Turned Into Adorable Vinyl Dolls

Yo La Tengo Vinyl Dolls Super Kiwi DVD Cartoon

Yo La Tengo have had a hankering for youth of late. In honor of their most recent album Fade, the Hoboken indie OGs shared a pair of videos that, respectively, paid tribute to the oddball animation of Yellow Submarine (“Ohm”) and took viewers back to school, dry-erase board and all (“Is That Enough”). Now, fans will be able to own tiny colorful cartoon versions of Ira Kaplan, Georgia Hubley, and James McNew thanks to a collaboration between the band’s label Matador Records, boutique toymaker PressPop, and artist Jim Woodring.

On November 19, fans will be able to purchase the three vinyl dolls as a set that also comes with a DVD featuring a five-minute animation called “Tree” also conceived by Woodring. New YLT music will accompany the hand-drawn clip, which is sort of described by the following words: “Present/past/future, the real/unreal, visible/invisible, sadness/joy … ”the Tree” will grow, enveloping all. And the ecstatic creatures that inhabit “the Tree” are the 3 beings blessed by the god of music.” Expect a “mind-blowing colorful dream world.”

Meanwhile, in honor of a forthcoming deluxe reissue of Fade, Yo La Tengo have shared a wonderfully noisy new song set for 7-inch release on November 7. “Super Kiwi” will arrive backed with a cover of the Beach Boys’ “A Day in the Life of a Tree.” Both will also appear on the bonus disc of the new version of Fade, due November 19. Stream below via Consequence of Sound’s player. Download the song for keepsies by right-clicking the name: “Super Kiwi.”
