Watain crowd at Irving Plaza, New York City, October 8, 2013
Swedish black metal horde Watain are, to put it exceptionally mildly, an extreme bunch of dudes, and their literally gory, fiery (also literally) live show is fittingly spectacular. We caught up, onstage and off, with the band members, currently in the midst of an American tour, as they arrived in New York City and prepped for and played a show at Manhattan’s Irving Plaza. As you’ll see, one of metal’s most intense stage performances doesn’t happen on a wing and a prayer.
Consider this gallery a teaser: Next week we’ll have a full written-through story of the band’s New York City trip.
