Hear Spiritualized Transform Cut Copy’s ‘Free Your Mind’ Into a Spacey Fever Dream

spiritualized, cut copy, free your mind, remix

Cut Copy’s fourth album will arrive on November 5, bearing an LSD-friendly color scheme and a psycho-spiritual urge to Free Your Mind. Naturally, both of those qualities make the album’s title track a fitting remix candidate for Spiritualized’s J. Spaceman. The psych-rock survivor has completely reimagined the Aussies’ house-inhabiting dance track, leaving behind the bongos, the piano chords, the rave-y optimism, and virtually all of the lyrics. What Spaceman has assembled is his very own kind of epic, a squalling space-rock behemoth that slowly takes off from its organ-washed opening and ends with the pilot weakly intoning, “You’ve got to reach for the sky if you want your life to shine.” Stream the redux over at the Guardian, and watch out for its official release on October 15, when it lands alongside Fort Romeau’s recent “Free Your Mind” remix.

Meanwhile, watch the official video for “Free Your Mind,” which stars True Blood‘s Alexander Skarsgård, and pre-order the Free Your Mind LP through iTunes or Modular Recordings.
