Jack Beats Remixes Rudimental’s Arresting ‘Free’

Rudimental 'Free' Emeli Sandé Jack Beats Remix Home

When SPIN spoke to Rudimental about their EDM-pop masterstroke Home, producer Amir Amor clearly had a special place in his heart for “Free,” the album’s striking closer. “It’s a very powerful song for us,” he said, and indeed, our own Philip Sherburne wrote that, the song “feels like floating on air.” Now that calmer coda gets dusted off for the dance floor courtesy of OWSLA duo Jack Beats. The Londoners keep Emeli Sandé’s arresting vocals front and center but scrap the rest, infusing a fidgety house beat with effects from the dubstep bass canon and sudden percussive hits of the tropical persuasion. Rudimental are prepping a remix collection due November 18 (via Big Beat) featuring contributions from Nas, Maya Jane Cole, Roy Davis Jr., and others. Below, Jack Beats take on “Free.”

Rudimental tour dates:

November 5 – Washington, DC @ U Street Music Hall
November 6 – Brooklyn, NY @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
