Watch Pearl Jam Strike ‘Fallon’ With White-Hot ‘Lightning Bolt’

“Pearl Jam Week” on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon came to an end Friday night (October 25), and the alt-rock icons were in-house to close the celebration. To promote the Seattle band’s chart-topping 10th album, Lightning Bolt, the folks at Fallon booked a week of musical programming with a Pearl Jam theme: Chris Cornell and the Avett Brothers covered the group’s 1992 B-side “Footsteps”; Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold put on “Corduroy,” from 1994 LP Vitalogy; Dierks Bentley followed with a slightly countrified version of Ten anthem “Alive” (supported by the Roots and PJ guitarist Mike McCready); and Pearl Jam themselves showed up on night four to sound off “Sirens,” the second single from their new full-length.

Last night saw frontman Eddie Vedder sit down for a quick chat with host Jimmy Fallon and fellow guest/noted Pearl Jam fan Javier Bardem. After Vedder reminisced about that time that he and Fallon dueted on “Balls in Your Mouth,” the 48-year-old singer led a blistering rendition of Lightning Bolt‘s triumphant title track. If “Alternative” really is the new classic rock, then Pearl Jam are well-suited for canonization — for proof, watch the three-way guitar solo above. Scroll down for the interview segment.
