A Tribe Called Quest, “Can I Kick It?” (1990)
The death of Lou Reed leaves a void in indie rock, punk rock, experimental music, and general underground go-you-own-wayness that will never be filled. His legacy in hip-hop, however, isn’t exactly as strong: a long-forgotten MTV-era dalliance in the form and a sorta-cover by Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, for starters. Still, a handful of classic rap tracks were made by producers orbiting their satellites of love around Lou and his crew. Here’s our favorite white light/white heat-rocks.
