Watch Volcano Choir Tumble Through New Song ‘Valleyonaire’ Live

Volcano Choir are currently on the road in support of their stellar sophomore album — we should know, since SPIN’s David Bevan spent 36 hours with the band just before they kicked off the North American tour. Naturally, the Justin Vernon-led supergroup have been playing highlights from their two full-lengths (2009’s Unmap and this month’s must-hear follow-up Repave), but the Wisconsin crew have also been pulling out some non-album cuts. While playing the Paradise Rock Club in Boston on September 11, the post-rock-mining collective performed “Valleyonaire,” a previously unreleased track that adheres to a more straightforward song structure than, say, Repave‘s “Byegone.” The new number forgoes the slow-burn atmosphere cast on that tune, but imports some of its cathartic uplift.

Fan-shot footage of the gig has surfaced online, and while the quality isn’t optimal (the audio is slightly fuzzed out and the camera’s view is obscured by one of the venue’s mixing boards), it’ll have to do. After all, it’s not like Bon Iver‘s releasing new material anytime soon. Watch the video above (via Stereogum) and skip to the 12:55 mark to check out the keyboard-slicked “Valleyoneaire.” Scroll down for Volcano Choir’s remaining tour dates, which stretch into 2014.
