Touche Amore Shred for Love in Post-Hardcore ‘Harbor’ Video

Touché Amoré 'Harbor' Video Is Survived By

Los Angeles post-hardcore quintet Touché Amoré tap into a ferociously effective sound: mournful atmosphere, plodding rhythms, angsty screams, and very direct lyrics. Frontman Jeremy Bolm proudly wears heart-on-sleeve like the screamo greats before him, while his band matches his mood or otherwise moves in the opposite direction. Take “Harbor,” for instance, from the group’s third album, Is Survived By.

To start, the guitar, bass, and drums sound beamed in from a Godspeed You! Black Emperor record. But as Bolm burns his throat in the quest “to have direction, to feel complete,” the pacing picks up and the song sounds triumphant. Hints of Cursive, Converge, Pg. 99, and At the Drive-In emerge in the process, as we hear what amounts to a damn romantic perspective writ large via screech and shred.

As for the Ryan Sanders-directed video above, it’s a simple but effective setup: the band in front of an unadorned wall, and the entire scene hit with well-curated projections. Underwater scenes, billowing smoke, sparks, naked bodies, cityscapes, the moon, and more accompany Touché Amoré as they deliver the goods. Witness them repeat the feat on the road (dates below). Is Survived By arrives today, September 24, via Deathwish Inc.
