The Internet has some terribly seedy corners and Oneohtrix Point Never isn’t afraid to visit them in the name of good art. The Brooklyn sonic sculptor also known as Daniel Lopatin releases his Replica followup R Plus Seven (streaming now) via Warp Records on October 1, and in honor of that occasion, we now have the video for “Still Life (Betamale).” The man’s videos are never traditional, and typically draw heavily from Internet imagery. With “Still Life (Interspecies Excerpt)” we got a dose of discomfiting 3-D visuals, and for “Problem Areas” we saw a series of digitally rendered still-life setups.

Above, director Jon Rafman compiles all manner of disturbing images related to “obsessive desire” (his words, via statement). We see shots of computers surrounded by filth and clutter but the truly disgusting part follows: a shifting collage of animated body parts in impossible configurations, accompanied by footage of so-called “furries,” and women who dress up like anime characters. A creepily robotic female voice tells us, “As you look at the screen, it is possible to believe you are gazing into eternity… This was the womb, the original site of the imagination.” If ever there was an argument for the lobotomy…
