On first listen, Katy B’s “5AM” is a cheery dancefloor jam, but its lyrics tell another story: “I need somebody to calm me down / A little loving like Valium/ I need somebody to knock me out.” The British club kid sings to the drug like its a lover — a sentiment opposite than on her last single “What Love Is Made Of.”
The song is destined for Katy’s eventual, still-untitled second album, which follows last year’s Danger EP. Hear it below.
