Watch Icona Pop Discreetly Thump ‘All Night’ on ‘Letterman’

icona pop, all night, david letterman

Icona Pop went full-on vogue in the ambitious music video/mini-documentary for recent single “All Night,” but the Swedish electro-pop sirens pared down for their September 25 performance on the Late Show With David Letterman. Dressed in sleek black outfits and bathed in dark red lights, Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo delivered a semi-stiff rendition of the thumping track, hemmed in by the space constraints of the Ed Sullivan Theater and weighed down by their instruments. Still, despite the lack of a dance floor (and army of catwalk models), the Charli XCX associates made an admirable effort to bring the This Is… Icona Pop highlight to life. Jawo twirled and stamped her feet as best she could while Hjelt fiddled with synths, and both ladies’ voices carried well. The audience responded with enthusiastic applause, and Letterman closed with a brilliant boast: “If you can prove you’ve seen another television show with Icona Pop and Reneé Fleming, call me.” Watch the footage above.

Icona Pop’s latest LP, the aforementioned This Is… Icona Pop, is out now by way of Record Company Ten/Big Beat Records. Don’t miss the 11-track platter — it is, after all, one of 50 Fall Albums That You Gotta Hear.
