Franz Ferdinand are out for blood in the just-released video for “Evil Eye,” a tightly strutting highlight from the Glaswegian outfit’s latest album, Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action. Directed by Diane Martel (the auteur behind Robin Thicke’s nudity-filled “Blurred Lines” video and Miley Cyrus’ perpetual hangover in “We Can’t Stop”), the clip splices together a stomach-turning montage of gross-out footage: Blood spewing from a sink faucet, people getting butchered and dismembered, throats being cut, cannibalism, and frontman Alex Kapranos sporting a dirtbag moustache.
Franz dipped back into their own “Take Me Out” history for the ’60s-nodding “Right Action” video, and they summoned the otherworldly creepiness of David Lynch for “Love Illumination.” But this short is pure horror pastiche, a torture-porn mini-movie set to an “Another One Bites the Dust”-biting groove.
