Elvis Costello and the Roots strutted through “Walk Us Uptown” on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, proving that their collaborative Wise Up Ghost album really is looser than you expected and not as stuffy as you feared. The ?uestello super-project returned to the NBC stage on Thursday for an encore, looking to spend “Cinco Minutos Con Vos” (translation: “Five Minutes With You”). Accompanied by La Santa Cecilia lead singer La Marisoul, Costello and company floated through the semi-Spanish language tune with panache — and extra assistance from a string and horn section. That performance made the main broadcast, while a doomy rendition of Wise Up Ghost‘s symphonic title track — enhanced by the sight of Costello crooning into a bullhorn — was filmed as a web exclusive.
