Watch Blood Orange Finally Meet His Grandfather in ‘Chamakay’ Video

Blood Orange dev hynes 'Chamakay' Video cupid deluxe

Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes has been on a tear of producing R&B-jam covers of Drake and Phoenix, but now he’s back with an all-new song of his own. The seductive “Chamakay,” off his upcoming album Cupid Deluxe, features pillow-soft backing vocals by Chairlift’s Caroline Polachek and comes with a beautifully shot, heartwarming video.

In it, Hynes ventures to Guyana, the home country of his mother, to reconnect with his family, explore the local scenery, and throw down some gangly dance moves. “I decided to visit Georgetown, Guyana for the first time, the town where my mother is from,” Hynes writes in the video’s description. “She, herself has not been back for 30 years, three years before I was born. I tracked down family members, including my 92-year-old grandfather, who I had never met before. In this video you will see our first-ever meeting.”

Cupid Deluxe is due out sometime later this year.
