The inimitable 2 Chainz hit The Arsenio Hall Show with a full band in order to demonstrate the strange wonder of his B.O.A.T.S. II standout “Black Unicorn.” Our review called the track one of the colorful MC’s “more maudlin” tracks, and it indeed brings the drama on stage. On-album collaborator Sunni Patterson kicks things off with an extended verse that’d be right at home on a vintage OutKast album.
Cue the synth strings, piano hits, loping bass, cut-up wax, and live drums — the track goes wide, then is reined back in by the lovely vocals of Chrisette Michele as Chainz gives us a history lesson (with a few trademark one-liners thrown in for good measure).
