The 40 Best Things We Saw at Outside Lands 2013

Although it boasted performances from Paul McCartney, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Nine Inch Nails, San Francisco’s 6th annual Outside Lands still had to deal with just about the worst nightmare for a music festival: a late cancellation by a headliner. D’Angelo was forced to bow out of a number of scheduled dates, but a Nile Rodgers-led Chic stole the show — though cameos from Bob Weir (with the National) and John “Uncle Jesse” Stamos for Willie Nelson didn’t exactly hurt. It all bridged the old — what’s up, Hall and Oates? — with emerging bands like Rudimental and Chromatics. One could say that Outside Lands, you know, got lucky.
