Don’t judge a book by its cover, and don’t judge a YouTube video about an album cover by its, um, video title. Nine Inch Nails have posted an “artwork/packaging” teaser video for new album Hesitation Marks, but the clip doubles as the first release of the September 3 LP’s foreboding, 52-second opening track, “The Eater of Dreams.”
On the album, this high-pressure buildup of bleeps and groans will explode into the burbling synth salvo “Copy of A.” Other new NIN studio tracks shared so far are the bleakly incantatory “Find My Way,” the unusually poppy “Everything,” and ferocious return “Came Back Haunted,” plus an excerpt from an iTunes deluxe-edition interview track. As for the Hesitation Mark artwork, by Russell Mills? Yeah, it’s pretty sumptuous.
In other NIN news, Antiquiet reports that a Reddit user and fan site Reflecting in the Chrome have compiled what they say is two hours of the band’s pre-tour rehearsal recordings; listen to those here. Separately, as Stereogum points out, Trent Reznor and the U.K. Reading and Leeds festivals are disputing the circumstances of NIN’s Reading set, where Biffy Clyro inexplicably played after NIN.
