Nine Inch Nails’ Ambitious Stage Show ‘Exposed’ in Tour Documentary

Nine inch nails hesitation marks tour vevo video

“It’s cool to give people an experience,” Trent Reznor says in a new video showing the lead-up to Nine Inch Nails’ incredible return to the stage after a four-year hiatus. The clip following SPIN’s recent cover stars comes courtesy of Vevo’s “Tour Exposed” franchise (Depeche Mode, LMFAO, 2 Chainz, Fall Out Boy) and is part one in the series following the industrial giants’ Hesitation Marks-fueled rise.

Naturally, it takes a lot of work to create a multimedia live show with dozens of moving parts and enough instruments for 30 people to play all at once. The 13-minute film explores that process — focusing on the careful preparation and coordination embarked upon by the band, the techs, the stage managers, and others — with Reznor painstakingly overseeing every aspect of the set as it’s fine-tuned at the Los Angeles Coliseum.

Right up until two days before the band’s comeback performance at Tokyo’s Fuji Rock festival, Reznor is unhappy with plenty of the aspects of the ambitious production. Videos aren’t working properly, his microphone stand is too loose, and the quality of the overall aesthetic has gone downhill since they started rehearsing. Top top it all off, when they arrive in Japan, it’s raining. Find out how they pull it off above.
