Watch METZ Brutally Slay the Damned’s ‘Neat Neat Neat’

metz, the damned, neat neat neat

Speaking to SPIN last fall, METZ singer-guitarist Alex Edkins said, “I always say that I feel really excited before we play, and after we’re done, I feel like I’ve woken up covered in sweat with a broken guitar.” Enter the Canadian punks’ beastly cover of the Damned’s 1977 single “Neat Neat Neat.” Recorded at Parson’s Chicken & Fish in Chicago for the A.V. Club’s weekly “Undercover” series, the above clip catches the Polaris Prize nominees gleefully tearing through the jittery classic till Edkins is red-faced and sweaty. Yes, they’re playing outside, in the sun, but let’s assume it’s the raw-throated passion that leaves him so exasperated, shall we?
