Janelle Monae and Miguel Find ‘Primetime’ Under the Stars

Janelle Monae Miguel Primetime Stream Electric Lady

When last we heard from Janelle Monáe she was dishing out “Special Education” flanked by a revitalized Goodie Mob. But now we’re back to the welcome business of stoking anticipation for the Kansas City star’s second album, The Electric Lady. We’ve seen the ArchAndroid boogie while the world burns in “Dance Apocalyptic” and smash stereotypes from outers pace with Erykah Badu in “Q.U.E.E.N.” Now we’ve got her highly anticipated Miguel team-up to consider.

While previous tracks were playfully upbeat, “Primetime” is a classic R&B ballad shaded in with Lynchian ’50s haze and powered by the strength of the featured duet. Monáe and the Kaleidoscope dreamer are a natural fit, trading verses and uniting for the chorus — “It’s the primetime for our love / Ain’t nobody peeking but the stars above.” — which should be enough to make Mariah Carey just a little bit jealous. Swoon with these two below. The Electric Lady arrives September 10.
