Goodie Mob and Janelle Monae Head Back to School in ‘Special Education’ Video

Back in June, when Goodie Mob dropped “Special Education,” a dubstep-ish track from their upcoming reunion album, SPIN’s Chris Martins called the single “a step in the right direction” after the epic letdown of 2012’s misguided “Fight to Win.” While the Janelle Monáe-assisted “Special Education” isn’t quite a return to the ATLiens’ long-gone glory days, the song’s just-released video does glance back at the past. Directed by John Colombo (Young Jeezy, Big K.R.I.T., and many more), the clip stars a cast of child actors playing mini-versions of Cee Lo, Khujo, T-Mo, Big Gipp, and Monáe, all of whom are just trying to make it to the end of the school day. Keeping with the skronky cut’s message of celebrating individuality, the kids all peacock for the camera, lip-synching braggadocio in the classroom, on the football field, in the library, and in the hallways. Watch it above.

Meanwhile, Goodie Mob have shared another audio slice from their Age Against the Machine LP, due out August 27. “Pinstripes” relies less on half-hearted EDM FX and more on gassy horn loops, rapidfire percussion, and a guest verse from fellow Atlanta native T.I., who recently combed the desert with Cee Lo in his “Hello” video.
