Cookie Monster Turns Icona Pop’s ‘I Love It’ Into Self-Control PSA

Cookie Monster Icona Pop, Me Want It But Me Wait, spoof, video

With Sesame Street about to kick off its 44th (!) season, the show’s masterminds prove once again they know how to entertain all ages while subtly basting minds with good advice. The latest testament? “Me Want It (But Me Wait),” Cookie Monster’s send-up of Icona Pop’s smash hit “I Love It.” In the song, the lovable Muppet struggles to restrain himself around a bowl of cookies, advocating dietary moderation using mutilated diction. “But now me know something / Self-control is something me must learn,” he sings. And don’t worry — the monster eventually gets rewarded for his patience.

For a Sesame Street parody geared more towards adults, check out this Sons of Anarchy spoof, which teaches poetry as opposed to biker violence. “Me Want It (But Me Wait)” isn’t the best Muppet cover of all time — that undoubtedly goes to the 2009 rendition of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” — but this is good for a few laughs, and some sensible guidance if you happen to have any little ones around. If you do, this’d be a fine time to revisit Dr. Dog’s recent cameo on Yo Gabba Gabba! and the Kidz Bop version of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “Thrift Shop.” Actually, skip that last one.

The new season of Sesame Street premieres September 16 on PBSKids.
