Earlier this week, Army Navy dropped a brand new EP, the six-track Crushed, via their very own label, The Fever Zone Records. To promote their newest effort, the “jangle-drunk” Los Angeles crew have shared a stunningly cinematic video for pseudo-title track “Crushed Like the Car.” Despite its name (and the presence of a shiny automobile), the black-and-white clip features no car accidents. Instead, the California-set short, directed by Cameron Dutra (who also helmed Foxygen’s “San Francisco” video), focuses on the interior horrors of a burnt-out relationship. As seen above, the piece mostly lingers on a despondent young woman who stares vacantly at the camera, whether she’s sitting inside her impeccably decorated home, riding in the passenger seat of a luxury vehicle, or standing in the desert, shrouded in a white sheet. The pace picks up when the song’s stomping chorus kicks in and a strobe effect washes over Army Navy: Our leading lady finally cracks a smile, lights a sparkler, and runs through the West Coast wasteland.
