TLC Don’t Want No Holograms, Replace Left Eye With Lil Mama at Comeback Show

TLC, mixtape festival, lil mama, reunion, vh1

TLC reunited onstage for their first U.S. concert in four years at VH1’s Mixtape Festival in Pennsylvania this past Saturday (July 27). Surviving members Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins led fans through a career-spanning set, dusting off “FanMail,” “Come Get Some,” “Ain’t 2 Proud 2 Beg,” “Unpretty,” “Baby, Baby, Baby,” “Creep,” “Waterfalls,” and more. For the finale, Chilli and T-Boz brought out rapper Lil Mama to stand in for the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes on “No Scrubs.”

In an oh-so-covenient promotional tie-in, Lil Mama also happens to be portraying Left Eye in VH1’s upcoming Crazy Sexy Cool: The TLC Story biopic, which co-stars Keke Palmer (Akeelah and the BeeIce Age: Continental Drift) as Chilli and Drew Sidora (Step Up, That’s So Raven) as T-Boz. As SPIN noted last week, TLC are releasing a new greatest hits album on October 15 via Epic Records. The upcoming compilation was produced by longtime collaborator Dallas Austin and will feature newly recorded updates of the Atlanta R&B group’s classic hits, in addition to contributions from Lady Gaga and Ne-Yo.
