Dave Matthews Gets Ride to Own Show From Last Good Samaritan on Earth

Dave Matthews live

Ask yourself this: What would you do if you saw Dave Matthews stranded on the side of the road? Depending on your musical tastes and/or general ability for kindness, you might swerve into him, drive right on by, or pull over to lend a helping hand. Luckily for Matthews, a couple who were driving to one of his shows went for option C.

According to CNN, longtime DMB fan Emily Kraus and her boyfriend were heading to see the group perform in Hershey, Pennsylvania, when they spotted Matthews on the side of the highway. Apparently, he was out for a pre-gig ride when his back tire blew. “I did not have a cell phone on the bicycle. So I thought, ‘Shit,'” he said during the show. “And then a nice lady named Emily rode up in a red car with a bicycle rack on it and gave me a ride on to the gig.”

Unprepared for this turn of events, the couple was so starstruck that they struggled to make small talk with the ’90s icon, who told them about his rock-star responsibilities, such as figuring out the summer camp schedule for his daughters. Ever the nice guy, he took them out to dinner, posed for some pictures, invited them backstage, gave them front-row seats, and signed their tickets with the inscription “Thanks for the ride.”

The lesson here? When driving to a show, always pick up a hitchhiker. It will always end well.
