Harder, Faster: Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky’ Inevitably Becomes a Condom Brand

Daft Punk

Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” continues to raise the, um, bar. The Random Access Memories chart-topper, one of SPIN’s 40 Best Songs of 2013 So Far, is now a condom brand, NME reports. The French nu-disco-gone-old-disco duo now reportedly appears on a condom wrapper that features the “Get Lucky” cover art. Diplo previously posted a photo of the wrappers on Instagram, writing, “Thank god I had those daft punk condoms last night.”

A rep for Durex clarified that the company has not struck an official deal with Daft Punk, telling MTV: “We are aware of reports that Durex has launched Daft Punk branded condoms following their hit single ‘Get Lucky’. There is no Durex promotion or partnership with Daft Punk in the U.S. or any other markets and Durex is not posting free packs to the world’s top DJs as suggested. However, we do hope that by using Durex condoms, music-lovers will continue to make sweet music together and have great sex!”

Last week, Sony Music Belgium posted a photo of the condoms on Instagram along with a caption that read, “Score a #getluckycondom from our #DaftPunk van at Leuven station right now! #rw13 @RockWerchter.” Despite the reference to Belgium’s Rock Werchter festival, Daft Punk did not take the stage at the four-day showcase, which ran from July 4 to 7.

Daft Punk’s crossover licensing extends beyond prophylactics and into, well, children’s toys. As Exclaim was first to report, action figures are on the way commemorating Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo’s Random Access Memories-era look. They’re made by Japanese toy maker Bandai’s S.H. Figuarts brand, and you can find more information on Amazon. Try not to think too hard about why Daft Punk’s condoms and Daft Punk’s action figures are both making the news around the same time.

The “Giorgio by Moroder” fragrance brand is really going to happen, isn’t it? Would also consider: a McDonald’s “Doin’ It Right (feat. Panda Bear)” Happy Meal, featuring an actual toy panda bear. Daft Punk understand Jay-Z’s “new rules.”
