Coliseum’s Complex Crime Caper Makes for Riveting ‘Doing Time’ Video

Coliseum got arrested in the video for “Bad Will” and now we can see the hardcore crushers “Doing Time” in their latest clip. Directed by Erik Denno of ’90s punk outfit Kerosene 454, the just-released short unfolds like a neo-noir mystery, with a story told through separate frames moving across the screen.

“Originally, the first idea for ‘Doing Time’ came from the opening credits that Saul Bass did for The Man With the Golden Arm,” Denno told MTV. “I love the idea that film is like moving graphic design. So I chose to use different blocks of video to tell different portions of the story. I also wanted there to be so much going on that with each view you’d see something new, making a deeper story each time in the way that the song added layers, until it all became so much that it was an overload of ideas, thoughts and visions.”

The first-person camera view doesn’t reveal the main character’s face, but it’s clear from the clip’s urgent pace that our (anti-)hero is trying to keep something a secret. Piece the clues together by watching the video above.

Coliseum also have a slate of tour dates lined up to promote their fourth album, Sister Faith. Between July 26 and November 7, the Louisville trio will make stops across Europe and the U.S., with a number of acts supporting them. Find details below.
