Low Offer ‘Twilight Zone’ Twist in ‘Plastic Cup’ Video

low, plastic cup video

Low marry grit and glamour in the video for “Plastic Cup,” the dusky opening track from recent LP The Invisible Way. The Minnesota slowcore vets are dolled up in Jazz Age evening wear — white tuxedo tops for frontman Alan Sparhawk and bassist Steve Garrington, a gown and furry stole for drummer Mimi Parker — and surrounded by bits of glitter while performing a dead-eyed tune about drug addiction.

Director Ryley Fogg works in a surreal twist in the middle of the black-and-white clip, revealing — just kidding! “The video imagery draws heavily on the look of the first ‘talkies,'” Sparhawk told NPR, “taking the band thru a psychedelic, alien encounter from outside our little sparkly world.”
