Randy Blythe’s Manslaughter Trial Decimated Lamb of God’s Finances

Lamb of God

Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe is free, irrevocably free, but his Czech legal saga was still a punishing one for his band. Blythe was acquitted earlier this year in the death of a fan who suffered head injuries after a Lamb of God show in Prague, and that acquittal was recently upheld. But Blythe’s overseas woes kept the band out of action for eight months, and the case took a financial toll on the Virginia metal group, as well.

On top of not having income from shows during Blythe’s odeal, Lamb of God also footed the bill for more than $500,000 in legal expenses, drummer Chris Adler told the Virginian-Pilot. “It bankrupted the entire band, no money left for any kind of payroll or anything,” Adler said. “When Randy was acquitted, everything was on the line at that point. Either it was completely over, or we had a chance to get back out there and pay these bills and get ourselves back on our feet.”

Luckily, Lamb of God are back on tour, although it took much longer than expected. “We said, ‘It’s all going to be over tomorrow, right? So we’ll be able to tour next week,'” Adler is quoted as saying. “That was our mindset. We were just waiting for the green light to get back out on the road.” In the end, Blythe wound up spending 37 days in jail in Prague. If he had been found guilty, he faced up to 10 years.
