It’s fair to say that rappers more than most musicians are a little sensitive about newcomers imitating their work. Angel Haze’s brand new single “No Bueno” is a classic example of the phenomenon, as the New York-via-Virginia rhymer has words (and words, and words) for so-called “shadow-chasers,” the basic crux of her argument being, “Bitches, you owe me.”
With heavily trapped drums and a woozy narcotic swirl, the song is about as aggressive and serious-sounding as anything Haze has done thus far, but the music video above takes a refreshingly light tack. Director Frank Borin auditioned a rogue’s gallery of folks to perform the song itself, and then edited together the trial footage into the clip itself.
Even if the contrasts are unsettling at times — an older Caucasian man telling “white rappers” they can “dine on my clit” — the end result of seeing so many people of so many different stripes impersonating Angel is inarguably positive. A little NSFW due to the topless dominatrix who whips a dude while rapping, so beware. Otherwise, go ahead and make it rain.
