Washed Out Teases New Album ‘Paracosm’ With Dreamy Visuals

washed out, paracosm

Chillwave survivor Washed Out returns August 13 with his second full-length album, Paracosm, comin’ atcha courtesy of Sub Pop. According to a press release, the follow-up to 2011’s Within and Without explores the titular phenomenon, “where people create detailed imaginary worlds.”

For this latest effort, Ernest Greene teamed with producer Ben Allen who worked on Within and Without as well as with Animal Collective and Deerhunter. The upcoming LP features some very Washed Out-y song titles — there’s as-yet-unreleased lead single “It All Feels Right,” plus “Great Escape,” “Don’t Give Up,” “All I Know,” “Falling Back,” “Weightless,” and “All Over Now” — but Paracosm is said to span a wider sonic spectrum. More than 50 instruments were used on the album, including (as per the announcement) “the most significant … old keyboards like the Mellotron, Chamberlin, Novatron, and Optigan.”

Watch Paracosm‘s delicate album teaser above. The Georgia-based musician is scheduled to tour the festival circuit this summer, with stops at First City Festival, FYF Fest, Bumbershoot, and the Detroit installment of St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival. Full dates below.
