Ty Segall Sets Paradoxically Titled August Album ‘Sleeper’

Ty Segall, 'Sleeper,' video trailer

Ty Segall makes it difficult to imagine him ever resting, let alone sleeping. On August 20, however, the Bay Area garage rocker will release a new album titled Sleeper via Drag City. Available on LP, cassette, CD, and digital formats, the record comes after Segall put his name to three albums last year, most recently Twins. He also has a full-length in the works with his other band, Fuzz. The commercial above shows Segall, dressed in a snazzy “couch potato” T-shirt, sleeping in various places, and it includes a few seconds of strummy acoustic balladry.

In other Segall projects, he recently contributed a psych-disco instrumental to a charity single. For Record Store Day, he covered T. Rex. In January, In the Red reissued two early Segall-led albums, the Traditional Fools’ 2008 self-titled LP and Segall’s 2009 Reverse Shark Attack with power-pop mastermind Mikal Cronin (yes, he of Essential-stamped MCII fame — check out his brand-new “Change” video.)
